What Students Say:
"I would really like to thank you for all of your wonderful comments and feedbacks with all my papers. You're are an exceptional teacher, and I feel like you taught me more, not just about English, but about science and other things. You have great insights and interests. I love how you care so much about your students successes and also their failures. You strive to help them with their difficulties and make them better writers, readers, and critical thinkers. Your feedback is always kind and motivating, and I love how you put so much thought into our feedbacks, because it is truly how you feel. Thank You again for all of your hard work. No need to worry about turning in the papers late. It means you take your work to heart. Thanks again for being my English Teacher this semester!"
“I was a student in Darin's class about internships and careers in the Winter of 2012 at BYU-Idaho. Attending Darin's class was a great experience for me because of the projects that he assigned. Unlike so many of my English classes, the projects assigned made me really think about what I am going to do with my life and how I'm going to do it. I found it very valuable to learn about setting ethical standards in the workplace, as well as the way that idea maps can be used to make connections between different concepts. Darin was always happy to help us students with any assignment, which was especially helpful since the class was challenging. I really appreciated the discussions he began in class.”
"Brother Hammond is very knowledgeable in what he's teaching. His assignments were fun, and geared toward the subject at the same time. The work load seems like a lot when he gives out the syllabus, but he really helps you through it and breaks it down. It was not an EASY A, but if you work, A's are definitely achievable!"
"I hate English, and I loved this class. Brother Hammond can teach to all levels at the same time. He really cares about students!!!"
"Great teacher. Nice and relaxed. ENG 315 is a busy class, lots of work and writing. Overall, I learned a lot, but I didn’t like all the assignments."
"Bro. Hammond is an amazing teacher. He truly cares about his students and will do anything to help you improve your writing. I'm not very good in ENG but I loved this class. You will become a better writer by taking Bro. Hammond class."
"Fantastic professor. He honestly cares about his students and he makes class fun."
"I enjoyed Br. Hammond's class. He explains things well, and isn't too tough of a grader. The work load for a 100 level class is a little much, but he helps out a bunch. GREAT teacher!!"
"Great teacher. He is willing to help if you are willing to seek and accept that help. His class is centered around the textbook, which at time becomes a bore but overall is good. I would recommend his class highly."
"Awesome teacher! Totally enjoyed the class. Already had a love of English to begin with and left the class with an even greater appreciation for English. Participate and show that you try!"
"Bro Hammond was a good teacher and easy as long as you kept up with his projects and he genuinely wants you to succeed."
"Not an easy class but very useful and relevant. I learned so much from Brother Hammond.... this is the second class I've taken from him - he is my favorite instructor!"
"Excellent teacher! His expectations are clear and if you follow them you will do well; however, this class is not easy. Besides, if you're looking for an "easy" English 331-335 class, then maybe you should reconsider being an English major! There is a lot of reading, but it's worth it. He is funny, smart, and caring. You will love him and the class!"
"Great teacher and great person. You work toward the research paper all semester so don't fret it. DO YOUR READING!!"
"Not an easy class, you have to work hard on your assignments and the semester long paper is hard, but if you work on it steadily you will be fine. Good class. Brother Hammond is funny and reasonable."
"This is my favorite class. Brother Hammond is really fun to have at 7:45 in the morning, he makes hilarious comments, however I feel like I didn’t learn much for the amount of work I've had to do. It's not very difficult, and Brother Hammond is lenient, I recommend this class!"
"Super good teacher. Fun and humorous. Really helped me appreciate the arts more and learn why I liked or disliked them, and how that should change after understanding the arts more. Hobbit/Homer class was sweet!"
"Brother Hammond is an amazing teacher. He is good at connecting with the students and making class a pleasant environment, while also holding us to being successful in getting our work done. I didn't mind the work load but there is a lot of reading."
"He is a great teacher, makes every class fun and interesting, makes it fun to learn, and makes discussing with the class easy and natural."
"I took his Homer to Tolkien class and loved it. The tests and quizzes aren't hard at all, but you learn a great deal. Sometimes there can be good deal of homework, but he is fair and tries to average it out."
"I had Brother Hammond for "Homer to Tolkien: Quests in Arts", pretty much the coolest class ever. He was really interesting to learn from, and he was genuinely interested in everything about this class. I loved the class, and it's pretty easy to get an A as long as you show up on time and do all the reading."
"I love Bro. Hammond! I was really not looking forward to taking his class, because there is a considerable amount of reading, and you do have a pretty good load of homework, but it’s not bad. Just keep up with the readings and projects and you'll do fine. He's a funny teacher, really liked the class."
